Easy CeREAL Fun Recipe
Meet my little Chefs! These two are the ones to blame for our conscious eating; from the moment I was pregnant with Mila I started questioning our eating habits and knew that a LOT of changes needed to be made! I began reading about how to nourish my body (and soul), and understanding the real meaning of eating.
Learning how to cook things that I love but in a healthier version has been awesome! Yes, it's not easy! and Yes, many things don't taste the same, but you know what? there are many other new favorites I have developed! and I personally cheat and eat "yucky" food, whenever I feel like it... Life is a balancing act ;)
Yes, my kids eat healthy... but it has been a process and it will continue to be one; in my humble advice, set your own rules, stick to them and tell people that, Yes, you don't give your kids ketchup (in my case) and No, they won't be traumatize, but they will learn how to eat without unnecessary "products" and eventually, when they grow, they'll make their own decisions.
Back to cooking! I love the smile on their faces and I'm also petrified of the mess they will leave! Thank you hubby for always keeping my wine at a perfect temperature.
I really encourage you to let them participate in the cooking process. They have fun, they stimulate their senses, connect to food and with you; plus they begin to understand that mommy doesn't just snap her fingers to make food appear on the table!
Here is an easy recipe to make with your kids. It's a basic cereal that everybody can enjoy with their favorite milk, yogurt or as a snack.
"Basic Cereal"
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup of Oats
- 1 Cup of Sliced Pur Superfoods Almonds
- 1/2 Cup of Pur Superfoods Red Raw Quinoa, Rinse it before to take away the saponin.
- 1/4 Cup of Coconut Oil
- 1/4 Cup of Honey
1. Preheat oven to 350 F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl or pyrex add the oats, almonds, coconut oil and honey. Stir well to combine, you want a "sticky situation" in there! if your brave enough let them use their hands!
3. Spread evenly on baking sheet or pyrex (no need to pur parchment paper on this one) Toss cereal every 10 or 15 minutes until golden brown.
4, Remove from the oven and let it cool thoroughly.
Tip! you can store it in a airtight container for a couple of days!
For a more "grown up version" add any or all of the following:
1. Dry cranberries or raisins
4. Pecans
5. Pumpkin seeds
If you have to eat sweeter add two spoonfuls of brown sugar.
I hope you {Enjoy} the recipe!
